For most of the movie buffs, who would throng theatres regularly, this year marked a huge change in their lives. Not being able to go to a cinema hall is one thing but being completely restricted to once home is another, and in these testing times it was the OTT platforms that kept us afloat.
We have listed 10 Indian series that kept us hooked in quarantine this year.
1. Pataal Lok:
Paatal Lok is the story of Hathiram Chaudhary, a cop who gets the case of investigating four people who are accused in the murder case of a well-known journalist. While investigating the case, Hathiram realises that there is more than what meets the eye in this case. The show was produced by Anushka Sharma and gained huge praises from the audience as well as the critics.
2. Special Ops
This espionage thriller chronicles years long manhunt conducted by RAW officer Himmat Singh to nab the mastermind behind major terror attacks in India. It starred Kay Kay Menon in the lead role.
3. Panchayat
This warm, cosy series takes you back to the joyous of a simple village life. This breezy watch focuses on the life of an engineering graduate who takes the job of a Panchayat secretary in a remote village of Uttar Pradesh due to lack of better job options. It shows how he falls in love with the village life and its people. The show stars Neena Gupta, Rajendra Kumar and Raghubir Yadav in lead roles.
4. Asur
This show is about the story of Nikhil Nair, a forensic-expert-turned-teacher, who returns to CBI to investigate the case of a serial killer. The show, which is set in the backdrop of Varanasi, stars Arshad Warsi in the lead role.
5. Aarya
Aarya marked the comeback of Sushmita Sen, it was also her digital debut. Critics as well as the audience heaped praises on Sushmita for her performance in the series. The show follows the story of Aarya, whose husband is killed by a masked man. Now, she takes the responsibility of running his drug empire and to get justice for him.
6. A Suitable Boy
Mira Nair's A Suitable Boy is adapted from Vikram Seth's novel of the same name. The show chronicles the story of Lata, whose mother is adamant to find a suitable match for her. But Lata is in love with a boy from another religion. The show also tells the story of a post-independent India through its characters.
7. Mirzapur 2
The sequel of the much hyped series, Mirzapur, was released in October. The sequel followed the tumultuous lives of Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi). Guddu goes underground and he is back only to get things straight with Kaleen Bhaiya. The show stars also stars Pankaj Tripathi in a lead role.
8. She
She was co-written by Imitiaz Ali. It chronicles the story of a Bhumika Pardeshi, an average cop, who is given the task to seduce a drug mafia and help nab him. Aaditi Pohankar was lauded for her breakthrough performance in She. The series also starred Vijay Varma in a lead role.
9. Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta story
This Hansal Mehta directorial became the most talked about show of the year. It was based on the life stockbroker Harshad Mehta who carried out a market manipulation, along with other bankers and politicians. The scam caused significant disruption to the stock market of India. Pratik Gandhi, who played the lead role in the series, became an overnight star after its release.
10. Aashram Season 2
The Bobby Deol starrer shows how broken young women are being kept captive in aashram's building, prasad-ke-laddoos with addictive substances are being manufactured. When Baba's eyes turn to a feisty young Pammi (Aaditi Pohankar), who is on her way to become a wrestling champion, is the time when the game changes.
