imageVirat Kohli, born November 5, 1988, in Delhi, India, is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history. His aggressive style of play, coupled with exceptional consistency and unwavering dedication, has cemented his place as a modern-day icon.

Kohli's journey began on the streets of Delhi where he honed his skills with a tireless work ethic. He represented Delhi at various age-group levels before making his first-class debut in 2006. His talent was evident early on, and he captained the victorious Indian team at the 2008 Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia.

His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Indian national team, making his ODI debut in August 2008. Initially, he struggled to establish himself but quickly found his rhythm, becoming an integral part of the Indian batting line-up. His maiden ODI century came against Sri Lanka in 2009, signaling the arrival of a future star.

Kohli's Test debut followed in 2011 against the West Indies. He quickly adapted to the longer format, showcasing his remarkable ability to score runs across different conditions. He cemented his place in the Test side and took over the captaincy in 2014 after MS Dhoni's retirement from the format.

Under Kohli's leadership, the Indian Test team achieved unprecedented success, reaching the number one ranking and dominating at home. His aggressive captaincy and emphasis on fitness transformed the team's culture. He led India to a historic Test series victory in Australia in 2018-19, a feat that had eluded them for decades.

Kohli's batting prowess continued to flourish. He amassed numerous centuries across all formats, breaking records and setting new benchmarks. He is the fastest batsman to reach 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000 and 12,000 runs in ODI cricket, and holds the record for most ODI centuries (46) by a batsman. He also became the fastest player to reach 25,000 international runs.

In 2017, Kohli took over the limited-overs captaincy from MS Dhoni. While he enjoyed considerable success in ODIs and T20Is, he couldn't lead India to an ICC trophy. He stepped down as T20I captain in 2021 and was subsequently removed as ODI captain later that year. He also relinquished the Test captaincy in January 2022.

Despite stepping down from captaincy roles, Kohli remains a vital cog in the Indian batting line-up. He continues to inspire millions with his dedication, passion, and remarkable performances on the field. Off the field, Kohli is known for his philanthropic work and his advocacy for fitness and healthy living. He is married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma.

Virat Kohli's impact on cricket transcends mere statistics. He has redefined batting standards, inspired a generation of cricketers, and cemented his legacy as one of the all-time greats of the game.
