Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American businessman, media personality, and politician who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.
Before entering politics, Trump was a prominent real estate developer, building and renovating numerous hotels, casinos, golf courses, and other properties worldwide. He also licensed his name for various products and ventures. He gained further public recognition through his ownership of the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and through his role as host of the NBC reality television series *The Apprentice* from 2005 to 2015.
Trump announced his candidacy for president in June 2015 and, defying most predictions, secured the Republican nomination. He went on to defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. His presidency was marked by significant policy changes, including tax cuts, deregulation, and appointments of conservative judges. He pursued an "America First" foreign policy, withdrawing the US from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement and the Paris Agreement on climate change. He also engaged in trade disputes with China and other countries.
Trump's presidency was highly controversial, marked by frequent clashes with the media, investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election, and his impeachment by the House of Representatives in 2019 (he was acquitted by the Senate in 2020). He lost his bid for reelection to Joe Biden in 2020. Since leaving office, Trump has remained a prominent figure in American politics and has hinted at a potential run for president in 2024. He faces various ongoing legal challenges.
