US President Donald Trump announced sweeping "reciprocal tariffs" that would impact both allies and adversaries of the nation. While announcing the decision, he said US allies were often "worse than our enemies" on trade issues.
The announcement came hours before he was due to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived in Washington DC Thursday (local time). During his visit, he met US intel chief Tulsi Gabbard and will later meet tech billionaire Elon Musk.
PM Modi also met US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz at the Blair House. He also met Tesla CEO and DOGE chief, Elon Musk.
The Prime Minister said he had a "fruitful meeting with NSA, who has always been a great friend of India. Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties."
PM Modi will be the fourth global leader to meet Trump at the White House since his inauguration on January 20. The US President has already hosted Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan's King Abdullah during the early weeks of his second presidency.
