Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US President Donald Trump at the White House today, with the two national leaders talking about their close bond. "He is a great friend of mine. For a long time we've had a wonderful relationship," Trump said as he greeted PM Modi in the Oval Office for a visit that he promised would bring "wonderful" trade deals.
Just before the talks, Trump announced sweeping "reciprocal tariffs" that would impact both allies and adversaries of the nation. While announcing the decision, he said US allies were often "worse than our enemies" on trade issues.
During his two-day visit to the Unites States, PM Modi met US intel chief Tulsi Gabbard and will later meet tech billionaire Elon Musk. The Prime Minister also met US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz at the Blair House. He also met Tesla CEO and DOGE chief, Elon Musk. He said had a "fruitful meeting with NSA, who has always been a great friend of India".
PM Modi is the fourth global leader to meet Trump at the White House since his inauguration on January 20. The US President has already hosted Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan's King Abdullah during the early weeks of his second presidency.
